About the Project
The Ground Screams To Whisper is an immersive afro-gothic installation that blends interactive sculpture, storytelling, and projection. Centered on Riziki, a writer who discovers her new home is a spiritual portal, the work follows her quest to free three ancestral spirits before the next retrograde, or be trapped with them forever.
Rooted in Eastern and Southern African cosmologies, the piece unfolds across three realms: the living, the in-between, and the ancestral, through modular components that respond to viewers and shape the narrative in real time. By merging digital media, myth, and resistance histories, the installation becomes a living organism and a journey of healing, self-discovery, and ancestral connection.
This installation is a dynamic ecosystem composed of modular components, each operating independently while contributing to a larger, interconnected whole. Some modules respond to viewer interaction, while others shape the overall narrative. Constant data exchange between elements creates a responsive, ever-evolving environment that blurs the boundaries between structure and system, physical and digital.
At its center, a sculptural tower anchors the installation, housing interactive elements and a multichannel projection system. This core projects virtual environments onto the surrounding space, extending the installation beyond its physical form. The result is a seamless blend of sculptural presence, interactive media, and immersive storytelling.
More than a static artwork, the installation functions as a living digital organism—an experience that is both visually striking and intellectually engaging. It invites visitors to step into a space where technology, interaction, and narrative converge, transforming any location into a participatory and transformative encounter.
